Pavilion Update

Turf users - Past and Present

THE GOOD NEWS

The Kapiti Turf Trust is very pleased to report that the stage 1 contract was let in February and construction of the changing rooms and Pavilion has started at the Mazengarb Turf.

Chairman Roger Sowry advised “that we had to commit to making a start as funding expiry deadlines were looming, design and consents had been finalised and tenders/quotes were in place. We only had sufficient funding for the stage 1 and had to limit our commitment to those funds”.

Stage 1 is for the changing rooms and ‘closed-in’ shell of the main Pavilion. Solid progress has been made on the construction of the changing rooms and pavilion. If you have been at the turf you will have noticed that the changing rooms are close to completion and the foundations for the main pavilion building are being prepared.

Hawkins Construction are on track with their construction programme and will be ready before the sewerage connection is in place. We are hoping that the changing rooms and toilets will be operational by mid-May when the sewerage is hooked up.

The Pavilion building is scheduled to be ready by August.

NOT SO GOOD NEWS

Insufficient funding is available for Stage 2. We are $290,000 short to complete the internal fit out and set up the kitchen and bar.

The Kapiti Coast District Council has confirmed an arrangement to provide some additional grant money and to provide a loan, if the Trust can raise a minimum of $95,000 of its own funds.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are so close!! We need to reach that $95,000 Trust funding before we can finish the Pavilion.

We need fund raising support from within the local sports community, donations from anyone we can reach including turf users and the hockey community. This might include things like:

  • Acknowledging sponsors and donors with an honours board and potentially gold, silver and bronze plaques for larger donations.

  • Fund raising activities at games and local events to be coordinated through the hockey club

  • Instead of a raffle, donation tickets for the opening day naming rights

NOTE: Because the Trust has charitable status, all donations qualify for tax credits from the IRD.

Start anytime – the “Stage 2 Fund” bank account is open

Please use reference/code/particulars so that we can send a donation receipt to your name and address for tax purposes.

NAMING RIGHTS

We are also looking for corporate sponsors for advertising and perhaps a naming rights sponsor for a 5 or 10 year arrangement. If you have anybody to suggest for us to approach, please let us know.

Diagrams of the proposed end result, and the progress to date are shown below.

Please help, please get in behind this project to get the Pavilion finished!!

Warmest regards

Roger Sowry, Liz Koh, Dave Jennings
